We carry a wide selection of food and food supplements. We carry live and frozen rats and mice, in many different sizes. We also have crickets, mealworms, super worms, lobster roaches, and night crawlers. Our associates are very familiar with the nutritional requirements of many different reptiles, and are always happy to help you to provide the absolute best diet.

We also guarantee the health of every reptile we sell. Several of our reptiles are locally bred, and we are always interested in meeting new local breeders.

lighting for your reptile or snake Lighting Different species of reptiles have different lighting and heating needs. Therefore, we carry a wide selection of bulbs. cages and tanks photo Cages and Tanks Just as with diet and lighting, reptiles have a wide range of requirements for caging. Many tropical species do better in glass enclosures to help hold in the humidity, while other, more temperate species, do better in screen enclosures. We carry a wide selection of reptile enclosures, in many different sizes, to meet all your reptile’s needs.

furniture for your reptile Furniture and Decorations No reptile enclosure is complete without furniture. All reptiles require at least one hiding spot, and 2 bowls, one for water and one for food. In addition, many reptiles also require “toys” to interact with, whether it is moss for them to lay in, or branches and logs to climb on. An enclosure that more closely resembles their natural environment leads to a reptile that is less stressed, happier and healthier.

reptile bedding Bedding We carry bedding for a variety of reptiles and environmental needs. Desert reptiles need a dry environment, and we have sand and sand substitutes for dry environments. Other reptiles need more humid conditions, and we carry bedding that retains moisture to help raise the humidity levels. We even have bedding for amphibious reptiles that works wonderfully in wet environments.

Tips, Hints & Tricks

Every year across the country, thousands of unwanted reptiles are turned loose by irresponsible owners.

  • This happens primarily because new reptile owners are not educated properly on the long term needs of their new pet. This is what sets us apart from other pet stores; we believe in educating new owners on every aspect of their new pet. By doing so, we are able to reduce the number of unwanted reptiles that are turned loose every year.
  • Reptiles turned loose in climates they are not adapted to generally end up dying a slow, painful death. Since many reptiles in the pet industry are either tropical or desert, this means that here in Virginia, the winter will kill many of them.
  • On the other hand, if reptiles are turned loose in an environment similar to their native surroundings, they may flourish and cause an imbalance in the surrounding animal population. This is the case in southern Florida. Because a few tropical snakes were turned loose, there are now breeding and growing populations of Burmese pythons.
  • The Pet Castle believes in educating new owners on the long term care of their new pets. In addition, The Pet Castle will always accept back any unwanted pet that was purchased from us for any reason. We feel that it is our responsibility to do our best to ensure that pets from our store do not end up turned loose or left for rescue organizations to care for.
